Sudan and Israel could also sign a peace agreement
Sudan and Israel sent messages of peace and reconciliation on Monday, leading to speculation that the countries may be on the verge of normalizing ties and establishing formal diplomatic relations.
In the late afternoon, Sudan's Foreign Ministry spokesman told Sky News Arabia that Sudan awaits a peace agreement with Israel. His remarks followed the announcement last week of a pending peace agreement between Israel and the United Arab Emirates.
Sudan's Foreign Minister Haidar Badawi Sadiq said on August 18 that he has had no contact with Israeli officials. However, he declared that "there is no reason to continue hostility between the two countries."
Sudan hopes to reach a peace agreement with Israel, the Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Tuesday, confirming speculation that more Arab states would follow the UAE in normalizing diplomatic relations with Jerusalem.
The peace agreement announced last week between Israel and the United Arab Emirates continues to generate mixed reactions. Sudanese authorities said Tuesday that they will seek to normalize their relations with the Israeli government.
Badawi Sadiq also indicated that the UAE authorities were "very brave" in normalizing their relations with Israel. He also stated that said pact would be the way for other peace treaties in the region.
Since the Israeli government, they welcomed the statements by the Sudanese authorities, stressing that these are "real contribution" to the development and peaceful coexistence in the Middle East.
Prime Minister Netanyahu responded immediately, saying: “Israel, Sudan and the entire region will benefit from the peace agreement and together they can build a better future for all the peoples of the region. We will do whatever it takes to make this vision a reality.
It should be noted that during February of this year, the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, and the head of the Sudan Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, met in Uganda to begin to normalize their bilateral relations.
During the meeting, an agreement was reached on the gradual normalization of bilateral relations. As a senior source close to the prime minister told, the first result of the meeting in Kampala would be permission to use Sudanese airspace for Israeli flights to significantly reduce flight times to South Africa and Brazil.
Prime Minister Netanyahu said “Israel, Sudan and the entire region will benefit from a peace treaty and can together build a better future for all the peoples of the region. We will do whatever is necessary to make this vision a reality."
It must be considered that the possible agreement between Israel and Sudan could be postponed given the current political situation in the African country, which is going through a transition process, after the fall of the government of Omar al Bashir.
On August 13, the White House announced the peace agreement between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, a historic event for the region. The pact includes a series of economic projects and the reactivation of the diplomatic headquarters.
However, there are those who have disagreed with this treaty. The Turkish government, for example, has harshly criticized the Emirati government with Israel, claiming that this agreement "betrays the Palestinian cause."
